deaton found her standing silently and alone above erica’s grave. she turned to him, saw him and didn’t all at the same time. she spoke, her voice a whisper. “we fell in love backwards. most people have the sense to fall in love with someone before they die.”

her voice broke and then shattered. she would have collapsed completely if deaton hadn’t been there to catch her and pull her into his arms.
